Dreams are a powerful thing. They let us dig deep into our inner psyche and open our eyes to concepts and thoughts we never knew existed. I am an avid dreamer and have a small yellow book with some hindu lady on the front that serves as my dream journal. The first thing I do in the morning is wake up and tell N* about the crazy dreams I had the night before. The only time I have been unable to remember my dreams upon waking is when N* is out of town. I think it has to do with the stress of him being away from home.

Anywho, I always recommend that if you have the ability to remember your dreams first thing in the morning is to write them down. At that point you can evaluate your dream and see if it is something that your are concerned over or rather your brain doing some spring cleaning. They say that your dreams are a way for you to release useless information or to push important issues to the surface.

There are tons of dream websites and dream decoder books and I think that they are all a load of crap. Seeing a dog in my dream does not mean that I am worried about my job (that is just an example by the way). I think it is best for one to reflect on their own dreams and decide the meaning for themselves. Here a few things to take into consideration when evaulating ones dreams:

1. Consider what you ate before you went to bed:

Spicy foods and foods high and sugar can cause one to have dreams that are completely out of the ordinary.

2. Try to turn the TV off when you go to bed:

While you sleep with the TV on your brain is still processing the background noise. Therefore if you fall asleep while watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre you are bound to have nightmares.

3. Try to relate your dreams to issues you are currently facing:
We all have skeletons in our closet, it is a fact of life. Ask yourself what does seeing your deceased father in your dreams have to do with your current living situation (Again, just an example).

Here is my personal example of my dream decoding skills:

In my dream last night I was sitting in a small dark office with 2 of my bosses and we were chatting about something that I cannot recall. There is a blue bottle sitting on top of a table. I’m staring at it and it lifts in the air, I automatically assume ghost but are too petrified to scream. One of my bosses sees the bottle in the air and lets out a scream.

There a few key points to this dream that I like to focus on.
A) Small dark office w/ bosses- My atmosphere at work was pretty rocky this past week. There were lots of issues between the sales department and the administrative office so I had been concerned about whether or not the issues would be resolved. The small dark office reflects my view of the office at this time. <<Thankfully all is working itself out now!

B) Blue Bottle on the Table- I have been upset with the dogs because I am still having some issues training them to do certain things. They have a blue bottle filled with water which is called the bad dog bottle. Seeing this bottle in my dreams shows that I am concerned over the welfare of my dogs and what I can do to help them and our relationship.

C) Ghost Reference- Before I went to bed I watched the movie Matilda in which the little girl has the ability to move things with her mind. I think this is where my brain created the levetating bottle. I also believe that my office building is haunted by a man named Sam committed suicide last November. I don’t think this was anything special, but rather my brain relieving some of that undead tension I constantly have while at work.

Have you had any random dreams lately?
